Rainforest Refugee Camp
RETURNS to Black Rock City BM2k3
 (4th year of service)
Open every day from Noon to 4pm (On days when it is Hot)

Just thought you might like to see my progress on the shade tent.
Any body can put up a tent, or build a dome out of tube steel and parachute material,
but will it hold up in the wind?
Will it be cool to sit under?
Will it be cool to look at?

oops broke 1/2 of one arch.

put the bent arches up in the "gazebo" arches  rather flimsy and broke one side of an arch..futzed around a bit and was not satisfied with the over strength.. came up with a different arch structure with crossings.. much much more stable. and easier to install

The 4 "/\"   at each corner will go up first and get the webbing started next the camo netting goes up so we can work in the shade.  the rest of the spider web is made the camo netting secured.
then the parachute material  tied to the underside of the spider web.
next the arches are woven together and bound then spread flexed and  slip ropes paced over each leg.
then the area where the arches cross are tied and life is good. maybe then tied to the 4 "/\" and then it is hammock time!

Rainforest Refugee Camp (RRC)  Begins with bent Alder Arches...
Ribs bound
progress
bent
I stripped the old sides off of the utility trailer and have new plywood ready for it. BUT it was the correct shape to bend
the center arches.   Current bending makes the center of the arch 12' off the ground..  As you can see transport  this way and size would be awkward at best.. sooo

truck
The beast is getting modified this week.. Notice the new tie downs on the sides?
I went and bought $70 worth of steel and will be constructing a rack over the bed of the truck that
will extend to the running lights on top of the cab.

rack
The rack is now in place the tail gate will work as a table/kitchen .. the rack will help with stabilizing the main tent... and worse comes to worse... I have a really strong hammock rack.. (grin)
the Receiver hitch is now bolted to the frame of the truck.  It is getting road ready!  Still have to pull the muffler off and put on dual exhaust and pipes (oh ya it will roar when done)  The 460 engine has been modified and the largest air filter squeezed in under the hood.  the cover of the air filter modified to accept the much larger air filter..

dog
Each year that I go to Burning Man I get this look
from the dog,
"I can tell, you are going to leave me for 2 weeks"
Sheena

she sits in the middle of the road blocking the way out of the yard.

Critters

The rain forest is a great place for raw materials.. but sometimes it leaves you raw also.
. seems I have been bitten by an irate spider
bite
the bright red spot is what is left of the the original point of bite..  the lighter pink (white) that radiates out at 10 o'clock is the swelled area the outer red ring is newly irritated skin.  It seems the little guy walked up my pants leg and bit me.above the sock.

all is better now the big bruising  has gone down but that red dot got worse.. ended up pulling the bite open and removing the dead flesh.. two nice craters where each fang went in.. most likely brown recluse spider bite.. all healed now..

fortunately the antidote grows close by   Jewel Weed

jewel weed

Don't know yet if it will open up to a raw wound or not.  but it feels much better tonight after the poltus of weed.

poison oak, poison ivy, stinging nettles, bug bites, spider bites, gnat bites, leach bites, bee stings, also stops bleeding. this is one nice first aid plant.
